Obsidian Mauveine (#5D0D64) is a deep violet with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Etymology

Obsidian
noun

Volcanic glass — molten rhyolite cooled too quickly to crystallize. Mined since the Stone Age for blade-edges (sharper than surgical steel) and ground into mirrors by the Aztec priesthood for divination. The color refers to a polished obsidian flake from Mount Hekla or Glass Buttes, Oregon: a deep, slightly blue-shifted black with the high-gloss conchoidal fracture of natural glass. Cooler than onyx, glossier than coal.

Synthetic-organic dye first synthesized in 1856 by William Henry Perkin (eighteen years old, a chemistry student at the Royal College of Chemistry) from coal-tar derivatives — the first-ever industrial synthetic dye. Mauveine color refers to a freshly mauveine-dyed Victorian silk: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the silky luster of synthetic aniline dye on Lyon silk. Named after the French mauve (mallow flower).
