Buttressed Tsavorite (#5C9517) is a deep lime with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (87°, 73%, 34%) places it in the balanced band at a dark lightness. It works well as a headline, icon, or deep background in an otherwise light layout, pairing cleanly with cream, bone, and warm neutrals. Etymology
Old French bouterez, thrusting-mass — past-participle of buttress, derived from bouter (to thrust). As a color modifier, buttressed implies a saturated-and-architecturally-supported quality, the deep-rich color of Gothic-Cathedral flying-buttress-and-rib-vault stone-architecture. Sits at the bold-and-fortified end of the grid, parallel to fortified and reinforced.
A green variety of grossular garnet — colored by trace vanadium and chromium, mined principally in Tanzania (named for Tsavo National Park) and Kenya. The color refers to a faceted East African tsavorite: a saturated, slightly cool deep green with the gem's signature internal life. Cooler than emerald.
