Cool Yunnan
Cool Yunnan (#596D05) is a deep yellow with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (72°, 91%, 22%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary indigo. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old English cōl, of low temperature — used as a color modifier as the complement to warm. Cool gray, cool blue: the optical impression of a slight blue-green shift, even within otherwise warm or neutral hues. Sits across the crisp, hushed, pale, and neutral buckets.
The southwestern Chinese province — and the deep yellow of Yunnan Pu-erh tea liquor and the yellow stripe in the jīnhuáng glaze of Tang-dynasty Yunnan ceramics. Yunnan refers to a fresh-brewed Yunnan Pu-erh in a porcelain cup: a saturated, slightly red-shifted gold-yellow with the optical depth of fermented-tea liquor.
