Eclipsed Azalea
Eclipsed Azalea (#58034D) is a deep violet with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (308°, 93%, 18%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Greek ékleipsis, abandonment — past-participle of eclipse. As a color modifier, eclipsed implies the deep occulting darkness of a celestial-body-blocked light-source, where umbral-and-penumbral shadows fall on the hue. Sits at the deep-and-cool end of the grid, parallel to occluded with astronomical connotation.
Rhododendron subgenus Pentanthera — particularly the deep-magenta Rhododendron indicum cultivars (the Japanese satsuki azalea), cultivated as bonsai and bedding shrubs since the Heian period. Azalea color refers to a fully bloomed Rhododendron indicum terminal truss in a Kyoto temple garden: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the velvet finish of fresh five-petaled bell-flowers in dense terminal clusters.
