Hygienic Fen Peacock

Greek hygieinós, healthful — derived from Hygieia (goddess of health). As a color modifier, hygienic implies a clear-and-medical-clean quality, the crisp color of Mid-Century-Modern clinical-and-hospital interior-architecture surfaces. Sits at the crisp-and-clean end of the grid, parallel to sanitary and sterile in usage.

Old English fenn, marshy ground. As a color modifier, fen implies a flat-marsh-and-reed quality, the visual register of East-Anglian-and-Cambridgeshire low-lying reed-bed-and-eel-trap drained-and-undrained marshland surfaces under flat East-Anglian sky. Sits at the modifier-and-place end of the grid, parallel to bog and moor in usage.

Pavo cristatus, the Indian peafowl whose male displays the most elaborate sexual ornament in birds — a fan of two-meter eyespotted tail feathers in iridescent blue-green.
