Middle English lomen, to appear vaguely — present-participle of loom. The genus Lonicera — particularly L. sempervirens, the North American coral honeysuckle whose orange-red trumpet flowers attract hummingbirds. The color refers to a fresh L. sempervirens bloom: a saturated, slightly red orange with the satin finish of tubular flower. Cooler than trumpetvine, brighter than coral.
