Submersed Mahogany
Submersed Mahogany (#500E01) is a deep red with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (10°, 98%, 16%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Latin sub-mersus, plunged-under — past-participle of submerse. As a color modifier, submersed implies the deep-saturated-and-cool-shifted quality of a hue viewed through a layer of water, like an underwater coral-reef object seen from a glass-bottomed boat. Sits at the deep-and-cool end of the grid, parallel to submerged with slightly-archaic register.
The genus Swietenia — particularly S. macrophylla, the South and Central American hardwood prized since the eighteenth century for furniture and ship building. The color refers to a freshly polished Honduras mahogany table: a deep, slightly red-shifted dark brown with the satin finish of high-density tropical hardwood.
