Holographic Scot Jade

Greek hólos (whole) and graphé (writing) — adjectival suffix -ic. As a color modifier, holographic implies a saturated-and-multi-angle-shifting quality, the bright color of holographic-credit-card and trading-card dichroic-film 3D-image-reflection. Sits at the bright-and-shifting end of the grid, parallel to iridescent and prismatic in usage.

Old English Scotti, of-Scotland. As a color modifier, scot implies a Highland-and-tartan quality, the visual register of Scottish-Highland-and-Lowland hand-woven tartan-and-wool-and-tweed peat-and-heather-and-stone surfaces under Scottish-Highland-and-Lowland tartan-and-tweed Highland-pasture light. Sits at the modifier-and-cultural end of the grid, parallel to welsh and irish in usage.

Two minerals share the name: nephrite (a calcium-magnesium silicate, dominant in Chinese jade) and jadeite (a sodium-aluminum silicate, dominant in Burmese imperial jade). Both have been carved in China since at least the Neolithic. The color refers to high-quality apple-green jadeite: a saturated, slightly muted yellow-green with the waxy translucency of polished stone. Cooler than apple, warmer than mint, with the millennial cultural weight of yu, the stone of heaven.
