Buttressed Blueschist (#4D7BF2) is a true azure with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Old French bouterez, thrusting-mass — past-participle of buttress, derived from bouter (to thrust). As a color modifier, buttressed implies a saturated-and-architecturally-supported quality, the deep-rich color of Gothic-Cathedral flying-buttress-and-rib-vault stone-architecture. Sits at the bold-and-fortified end of the grid, parallel to fortified and reinforced.
A metamorphic rock — formed under low-temperature high-pressure conditions in subduction zones — characterized by the deep blue of glaucophane amphibole. The color refers to a freshly cut blueschist specimen: a soft, slightly cool deep blue with the metallic-gray-fibrous finish of crystallized amphibole.
