Fathom (Old English fæthm, six-foot span used to measure water-depth) plus suffix -less. Kikyo color refers to a fully unfurled Platycodon grandiflorus corolla: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the velvet finish of fresh balloon-flower petals.
