Bastioned Spinach
Bastioned Spinach (#467102) is a deep lime with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (83°, 97%, 23%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Italian bastionato, fortified-with-bastions — past-participle of bastion, derived from bastia (fortified-tower). As a color modifier, bastioned implies a saturated-and-fortified-and-projecting quality, the deep-rich color of Vauban-period military-fortress star-fort projecting-bastion stone-architecture. Sits at the bold-and-fortified end of the grid, parallel to fortified and buttressed.
Spinacia oleracea, the Persian leaf cultivated in China and the Mediterranean since the seventh century, popularized in twentieth-century America by Popeye and a misplaced decimal point in an iron-content study. The color refers to fresh raw spinach leaves: a saturated, slightly yellow-shifted green with the matte finish of a crinkled-savoy leaf. Deeper than apple, cooler than olive, with the kitchen weight of a vegetable that wilts to a quarter its raw volume.
