Middle Dutch spange, clasp / metal-disc — past-participle of spangle. The genus Senecio — particularly the silver-leaved succulents (S. cineraria, S. mandraliscae) used in Mediterranean and California gardens. The color refers to fresh Senecio cineraria foliage: a soft, slightly cool pale silver-green with the matte velvet finish of dense leaf hair.
