Etymology
Greek stróbos, whirling — present-participle of strobe. The fossilized iridescent shell of Placenticeras ammonites — mined principally from the Bearpaw Formation in southern Alberta, Canada. The color refers to a polished ammolite cabochon: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-green with the iridescent satin finish of structurally colored ancient nacre.
