Strobing Mull Jade

Greek stróbos, whirling — present-participle of strobe. As a color modifier, strobing implies a saturated-and-pulse-flashing quality, the bright color of concert-strobe-light and photographic-strobe high-frequency-pulse light emission. Sits at the bright-and-flashing end of the grid, parallel to flashing and pulsating in usage.

Middle English mullen, to-grind-or-ponder. As a color modifier, mull implies a slow-pondered-and-warmed-and-spiced quality, the visual register of mulled-wine-and-mulled-thought hand-slow-pondered-and-warmed-and-spiced mulled-wine-and-mulled-cider-and-mulled-thought mulled-and-slow-pondered-and-warmed-and-spiced surfaces under mulled-wine-and-mulled-cider-and-mulled-thought clove-and-cinnamon-and-orange-peel hearth-side-winter-light. Two minerals share the name: nephrite (a calcium-magnesium silicate, dominant in Chinese jade) and jadeite (a sodium-aluminum silicate, dominant in Burmese imperial jade). Both have been carved in China since at least the Neolithic. The color refers to high-quality apple-green jadeite: a saturated, slightly muted yellow-green with the waxy translucency of polished stone. Cooler than apple, warmer than mint, with the millennial cultural weight of yu, the stone of heaven.
