Old English on-glōwan, on-glow — sharing root with glow and gleam. The Arabic word for green — used for the deep green of the Khidr (the Green One) in Islamic mysticism, the green domes of mosques, and the Jabal al-Akhdar (Green Mountain) of Oman.
