From the Italian brillante, sparkling — used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for hues that read as optically active beyond their literal saturation. Hanada-iro (縹色) — a traditional Japanese textile dye color, the saturated medium blue between asagi (light blue-green) and konjō (deep indigo). Used in samurai-period inner robes and Edo-period commoner clothing. The color refers to a hanada-dyed silk: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the satin finish of plant-and-mordant dye.
