Pulsating Aisle Sky

Latin pulsātio, beating — present-participle of pulsate, sharing root with pellere (to drive). As a color modifier, pulsating implies a saturated-and-beating-and-rhythmic quality, the bright color of rave-and-festival light-show synchronized-pulse rhythmic-emission. Sits at the bright-and-active end of the grid, parallel to throbbing and strobing in usage.

Old French aisile, side-aisle. As a color modifier, aisle implies a side-aisle-flanking-nave quality, the visual register of Romanesque-and-Gothic-cathedral hand-built side-aisle-and-arcade column-and-arch flanking-the-nave architectural surfaces under Gothic-and-Romanesque side-aisle filtered light. Sits at the modifier-and-architecture end of the grid, parallel to nave and apse in usage.

The blue of a clear sky at noon — produced by Rayleigh scattering, the preferential dispersion of shorter wavelengths through atmospheric molecules. Air itself is colorless; the color we see is sunlight scattered toward our eyes by every cubic kilometer above. The reference shade is mid-latitude noon under a high pressure system: a clean, slightly green-shifted blue with the luminous depth of light scattered across an entire hemisphere of air.
