Earnest Ruri (#0368EF) is a true azure with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Old English eornost, seriousness, zeal. Used as a color modifier since the nineteenth century for hues that read as committed but unshowy — the working blues of denim, the deep greens of Quaker meetinghouses. Ruri-iro (瑠璃色) names a saturated dark blue distinct from ai-iro. The color refers to a polished Japanese-cut lapis cabochon: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the matte finish of fine lapis.
