Electric Hydrangea
Electric Hydrangea (#01E8EF) is a true cyan with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (182°, 99%, 47%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary red. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
From the Greek elektron, amber — the substance whose static-electric properties were observed by Thales of Miletus. Used as a color modifier since the late nineteenth century after electric light made certain saturated colors feel attention-demanding. Electric blue, electric pink: the implication is hot luminance combined with optical impact. Sits at the bright-bucket extreme.
The genus Hydrangea — particularly H. macrophylla, whose flower color depends on soil pH (acidic = blue, alkaline = pink). The color refers to a blue-bloom H. macrophylla in acidic-soil garden: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the matte finish of clustered four-petaled florets.
