Greek ēléktron, amber — present-participle of electrify, named after the static-electricity property of rubbed amber. The Arabic word for green — used for the deep green of the Khidr (the Green One) in Islamic mysticism, the green domes of mosques, and the Jabal al-Akhdar (Green Mountain) of Oman.
