Sharp Heron (#01ABFF) is a true azure with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Old English scearp, cutting, pointed — applied metaphorically to color since the seventeenth century for hues that read as definite and edge-defined. The family Ardeidae — particularly Ardea cinerea (gray heron) of European wetlands and Ardea herodias (great blue heron) of North America, whose plumage is dominated by saturated blue-gray. The color refers to a great blue heron in flight: a soft, slightly cool deep blue-gray with the matte finish of large wading-bird plumage.
