Taciturn Manganite

#00092a
Notes

Taciturn Manganite (#00092A) is a deep blue with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (227°, 100%, 8%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary amber. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Taciturn
adjective

Latin taciturnus, silent / not-given-to-speech. As a color modifier, taciturn implies a neutral-and-quiet-and-not-talkative quality where the hue carries the visual register of Cistercian-monastic and Quaker-meeting-house silent-and-meditative interior-and-textile-finish. Sits at the neutral-and-quiet end of the grid, parallel to reticent and laconic in usage.

Manganite
noun

γ-MnO(OH) manganese hydroxide-oxide mineral — a deep-black orthorhombic mineral mined principally at Ilfeld in Germany and Negaunee in Michigan. Manganite color refers to a freshly cleaved Ilfeld manganite prismatic-cluster face: a saturated, slightly cool deep black with the metallic finish of orthorhombic manganese-hydroxide-oxide. One of the principal ores of manganese metal, also a steel-alloy and dry-cell-battery component.
